Prices for electricity go up and you don´t know how to save ? If you know how to survive in the wilderness you have big advantage. We give you few tips how this skill can help you to save on electricity. There is nothing easier than go back to our roots. 

From the historical point of view it seems like yesterday. What are we talking about ? It really is not so long ago that our ancestors had to survive without electricity. They did not have to worry about electricity prices, simply because there was no electricity. But our times are different and actually dependent on electricity, which is half of the problem. The other half is (whether we like it or not) that we can not count on anybody´s help when paying the bills, not mentioning the help from government...

We have no choice but to start saving. And if you are real outdoorsman, then it should not be a problem for you. But this article is not only for bushcrafters or nature lovers, but also for people who would like to save on electricity. We warn you, however. There is no other way than to give up on comfort you were used to.

Our ancestors looked for inspiration in the nature, but we are turning away from it. And the connection with nature is something what the outdoorsmen are great at. For them it is not problem to survive without electricity so in this article we give you few tips from them how to save on electricity.

1. Reduce using of lights 

It is not necessary to have all the lights on in your house or apartment when there is nobody there. To have lights on only where we really need it are the basics. Do you want be like bushcrafters ? Just use oil (kerosene) lamp. The fact, that there is a great demand for this product recently, means that it is no joke. The night spending with book and this lamp is just amazing.

2. Cooking 

Cooking might means significant consumption of electricity. If you have to use electric cooker, then choose later hours, when the rates can be cheaper. The outdoorsmen do not need to solve this, they use gas stoves and others and with bit of a skill they are able to save.

Sometimes you can use ready to eat meals, which can be prepared just by using boiling water or special heating capsule. 

3. Sleeping in a sleeping bag 

Outdoorsmen, whether they are using gas or electricity, they have no problem to sleep in a sleeping bag. They are pretty much ok with sleeping bags with comfort temperature rating up to -20 Celsius. Even know this might be bit of an extreme, it helps us to save some money. 

4. Cold exposure (cold bathing) 

We recommend cold exposure (training) because of many reasons. It has both physical and mental beneficial effects, but at the same time you should be able to adapt better to colder conditions so you don´t need the temperatures in your room to be so high as well as you can use colder water when showering. This is quite natural for all bushcrafters and outdoorsmen so you should think about it too. It will only have beneficial effects...

5. Just try it 

Start slowly, try one day without electricity so you know what is it like and what life our ancestors without electricity had. Unfortunately we can see, that times when electricity might be bit of a "luxury" are not that far away...
