Compared to 420 steel, 420HC steel has a much higher carbon content. Although the steel has a fairly average resistance to corrosion, it has a stable edge, which is why 420HC steel is popular with knife makers and renowned knife companies. If you take good care of your knife and do not put it in the sheath wet or dirty, then even with average anti-corrosion properties it will last a very long time.

If you move or intend to move in the world of knives, you will come across this steel very often. Although it does not belong to the absolute top, it is a fairly high-quality steel that is widely used in the knife industry. It grinds very well.

420HC steel properties

Thanks to the higher carbon values, this steel boasts the following properties:

  • it is easy to grind
  • holds the blade well
  • resists mechanical damage
  • average hardness (up to approx. 58 HRC)
  • average corrosion resistance

The steel is mainly used for knives. At the same time, it is used to produce quality tools of various kinds. So it can be said that with sufficient tool maintenance you can't go wrong with this steel.
