Enjoy your barbecue outdoors. You don´t know how to do it ? Then read this arcticle with few ideas and tips for outdoor barbecuing. You will find that it is not rocket science but rather fun. 

What is better? Roasted or grilled meat ? Both is good, but it always depends on your personal taste. You can believe, that grilled pork shoulder steak prepared on outdoor bbq is really something as well as it is really difficult to prepare it in your kitchen. 

Are you new into the outdoor barbecuing ? Don´t worry, we all have to start somewhere and this article should help you with first obstacles. With more experiences everything will come naturally. 

1. Choose the right place 

There is nothing more important than choosing the right place. We have to choose the place with no risk of fire. For example, it shouldn´t be close to stack, mow, tree branches or forest. Only choose places where it is allowed to make a fire. 

2. Preparing a fireplace 

Is it your first outdoor campfire? Then you will definitely need some stones to put it around. This is for safety reasons to stop possible spreading of a fire. By starting a fire you take over the responsibility so you also need to make sure that the fire is properly extinguished.

3. Barbecuing 

Now the best part. The barbecuing itself. What do we need ? All we need is pretty much a cooking grate. We don´t really need anything more. We set the cooking grate over the stones with its middle part being in the centre of the fire. And then we can just enjoy how the fire is heating up the grate with our food on it. 

Another popular way of cooking is to wrap your food in aluminium foil and then place it on the cooking grate.

4. Don´t have a cooking grate ? 

Don´t worry. You can still prepare your favorite food. It takes bit more time, but the result is also fantastic. What are we talking about ? Seton´s pot is the answer. What do we need for it ? 

  • 15 - 20 stones
  • dry fire wood 
  • aluminium foil, baking paper or nettle leaves
  • wooden stick/stake 

Following steps are quite simple. Start a fire and add the stones. The heat must be quite intense for dry stones to adopt enough of heat. In the meantime, dig a hole, about 50 cm deep. Stick the piece of wood to the bottom of your hole and add some fire ash with some hot stones. Place the already wrapped food (either in aluminum foil, baking paper or leaves) over it. Then put the rest of the fire ash and stones on the top. Cover the hole, wait around 15 minutes and stick out your piece of wood. Add approx 2 liters of water to the hole and wait for about 2 hours until it´s done.

5. The result is worth it !

If you don´t have cooking grate you can cook your food on rock. It is important, that the rock is sufficiently hot. We recommend that it is also flat and smooth. Then we can start cooking. 

There is nothing difficult about outdoor barbecuing. Now you know for example what to do, when you forget to pack a cooking grate. And when you stick to all the safety protocols then nothing is holding you from a pleasant sitting by the campfire.
